The Toggery name may have changed to Dunbar-Murray-Gaylord, Men's Furnishings; however, Charles Dunbar, a multi-faceted entrepreneur, remained a partner.
In late 1912, Charles R. Dunbar and Dr. Stephen A. Mahoney purchased the building. Dr. Mahoney relinquished his interest to Mr. Dunbar in 1921.
The Dunbar-Murray-Gaylord Men's Furnishings Store was formed around 1914. The principles of carrying high-quality merchandise and providing exceptional service continued under the new ownership. The partners included Charles R. Dunbar, Thomas N. Murray, and Lyman F. Gaylord.
In 1919, the business was incorporated as Dunbar Murray Inc. with Thomas Murray as President and Charles Dunbar as Treasurer. The trade name remained Dunbar-Murray and Gaylord until the late 1920s, then it was shortened to its corporate name, Dunbar-Murray Inc.
In 1939, the building was sold to August T. Gallup, who moved his A. T. Gallup clothing business into 302-304 High Street. The story of A.T. Gallup was completed in previous blog entries.
