Profiles Inc. was a manufacturer of shaped wire formed into specialized shapes for use in communication systems, calculators, computers, and fire alarms. The business was incorporated on December 29, 1965, and subsequently occupied the space formerly used by Metal Research & Manufacturing Corporation at 649 Main Street. Hans Thoma of Hardwick, MA, was the founder of the company.
The company expanded its production to meet the needs of the auto industry, offering cold-drawn and cold-rolled steel.
As early as 1967, company officials approached the Town of Hardwick to seek land for a 12,000-square-foot factory that would employ 30 to 35 people.
After ten years of operation in Holyoke, the company relocated to 454 Palmer Road in Ware, MA. The building in which it operated on Main Street was slated for demolition to make way for the construction of I-391.
After operating for 20 years in Ware, the business relocated to a 72,000 square-foot facility in the Palmer (MA) Industrial Park in 1997. At the time, the company employed 90 people and its space would be more than doubled from its Ware facility.
