Pat's Pastry Shop

Every so often, while driving through the city, I'll notice a facade removed from a building, or the building itself, exposing a sign of an advertisement or the name of a shop that existed in the past. Such is the case of Pat's Pastry Shop.

Within the last five years, the building at 910 Hampden Street had its wood facade removed, as shown in the photo below, and the well-preserved sign for Pat's Pastry Shop appeared behind it.

On August 23, 1962, Pat's Super Market opened a 300-square-foot bakery and delicatessen called Pat's Pastry Shop at 910 Hampden Street.

Based on the Help Wanted ads viewed, the baking was performed on premises.

It was a relatively short-lived endeavor, as Pat's Super Market closed the Hampden Street pastry shop in May 1968. The principals decided to curtail their in-house bakery at their supermarket and contracted with Liberty Bakers of Springfield to supply their pastry needs. The pastry shop was no longer a part of their plan.
