On June 1, 1955, Hegy's Inc. formally opened its new additions at the 920 Main Street plant. This included the new 30-car parking lot, a 30' by 15' addition that would house the new office, and the drive-in operation. George Croteau of Chicopee completed the project.
In 1957, Frank E. Kaplan, the company's President and Treasurer, purchased the 3-story block at 348-350 Dwight Street, adjacent to Hegy's plant and shop at 342-344 Dwight St. The plan was to expand the business on the first floor of the newly acquired building.
In late April 1959, Hegy's Inc. sold its property at 920 Main Street to Research Corporation, which planned to manufacture small machinery parts. As part of the transaction, the new owner leased a portion of the plant back to Hegy's Inc., which continued to maintain its fur storage and drive-in cleaners at the location. This transaction did not affect the plant and shop at 342-344 Dwight Street.
In early 1962, Frank Kaplan retired for health reasons. The business was subsequently operated as Hegy's Incorporated, with George S. Hegy, its President, and Rene Godere as treasurer. By mid-1968, the long-established iconic business in its field, having fallen on hard times, closed, 90 years after it started in 1878.
